My daughter has attended in the Children's house since the montessouri program began and Val Hannum took over as Principal. This is her third year. She is thriving and loving her school and learning fast. I love the teachers, the involvement by parents and the Principal. This is a Title I school and the neighborhood is a little rough - but the school is outstanding.

Good school, could be better academically. I have found the english classes to be really lacking. My child has not been given work high enough for her level for the last three years. Overall the teachers are mixed bag, of good and bad. The administration has sometimes not had the right teacher in the right position (like someone teaching advanced Math should not be someone who refuses to stay after school to give extra help!). There is a new female principal. Maybe she will bring improvement. Right now she's just been aggravating the kids and parents with changing things that were actually good, like incentives (dances, trips). I think the opportunities that are offered to the kids is the school's best asset. Lots of clubs and things to be involved in. Most teachers stay after school for help and for clubs.

I think the school is great. I love the idea that the teachers and principal know your children on a first name basis and what got me to buy a house in the district was the small classroom sizes.

One of the reasons Sophie Finn Elementary is a great school is because of its small size. That means staff and students know each other, keep an eye out things to celebrate and problems to solve, and are able to make new students feel at home quickly. In fact, many new students who have transferred here with 'reputations' respond very well to our welcoming atmosphere, and happily find a fresh start at Sophie Finn. We have a very diverse student population, and I think that definitely helps our school to be well rounded and sensitive to different kinds of people. Our staff is experienced, and no matter the slings and arrows of daily life, teachers are always professional in regards to how students are treated. We have a small but dedicated core of parents who enhance the students' learning experiences through their PTO fundraising efforts, and as for the principal, his motto is, 'Students first!'.

Both of our boys attended Kingston Catholic Pre-K program. It has provided them with a strong foundation in their faith. They have learned prayers and know much more about God and the Catholic Faith than many of their much older cousins and friends. They are given opportunities for music, art, and physical education as well as instruction in basic readiness skills, such as color, letter, shape and number identification. I would recommend this program to anyone thinking of sending their child into a pre-school environment.
